Hobbies And Stuff 7-19-13

Today is Friday!! :) happy Friday people of the world :D Wooo this week has been nuts! Hopefully I'll be able to relax this weekend :) Anyways (wow I say that a lot lol I need a new word!) time for this week's hobby...music :)

Now, anyone can make a career out of a hobby (I'm going to college for Culinary Arts) but I personally think of music as a hobby because I do it for fun. I play piano and I know a little guitar. I do sing from time to time but I'm really bad at it so I just do it all for fun. I know people that take it seriously and they're amazing at what they do but I just like to enjoy myself and not stress out over it :) life is too short to be bored all the time and it's NEVER too late to try something new like learn an instrument :)

So what instruments do you play or wish you could play? Do you sing? Would you ever consider a career in music? I want to know :)

Fashion/Hair Advice 7-18-13

How's everyone's week going? Mine's good but I've been busy and I'll be busy for a while lol I've got a lot to do and a little time to do it. Anyways, here's this week's Fashion and Hair Advice:

This week's fashion tip is don't be afraid to try something different. In fashion risk taking is always fun :) I love experimenting with different colors and textures/prints. I'll pair a shirt with a different pair of shorts or jeans and shoes. Don't worry I am working on the mix and match piece :) I haven't been on the computer today so I haven't been able to make the collage. I might do it on my phone actually lol

Today's hair tip is to always try new hairstyles. I mean get your hair cut a different way from time to time :) switching it up helps everyone notice you and it keeps them talking :D it also has everyone asking 'hey did you get a haircut?' (Unless you're me lol I never get compliments)

Does anyone have any hair or fashion questions? I'll answer them if you ask! :)

Thrifty Tips 7-17-13

Since I'm catching up on my blog today here's yesterday's thrifty tip! :)

This week's thrifty tip is about shopping around :) If you find something you like but it's really expensive from the company, shop around for a cheaper one! This especially applies for computers and laptops :) It also applies to clothes, accessories, shoes, etc.
For example, a laptop could be $700 from the company but from a store it could be $600 or even $500 or less. Always research before you buy :)

10 Random Things 7-14-13

I've been so behind this week that I forgot this week's 10 random things!!! :O omg sorry!!

Anyways...this week's 10 Random Things is about drinks! :) here are my 10 favorite drinks in no particular order!

1.) tea (sweet and unsweet)
2.) HiC (Fruit Punch is my fave)
3.) Gatorade
4.) Powerade
5.) Water (duh lol)
6.) Vitamin Water (the energy and xxx are my faves)
7.) Raspberry Tea (Peace Tea, Snapple, Wawa and Lipton are my favorite brands)
8.) Lemonade (it has to be made just right)
9.) Apple Juice
10.) Cranberry Juice (Ocean Spray is the best in my opinion!)

So there are my 10 favorite drinks :) notice how there's no soda. That's because I stopped drinking soda last September. I've had less than 10 sodas since (seriously!) I've lost about 15 pounds and counting and I'm a lot happier and more hydrated when I do drink fluids :) what are your 10 favorite drinks...let me know :D

Fast Food Alternatives 7-16-13

This week has been a busy one for me. Monday I job hunted, Tuesday I was with my friend, yesterday I did stuff for college and today I washed my car :) well now that everything is done for now, I thought I should do this week's Fast Food Alternatives :D

This week's Fast Food Alternative is about fries! Everyone loves them so I think this is a good topic :) Honestly my favorite fry is McDonald's because they're almost always perfect but they're so unhealthy because of the salt and oil! I have a few alternatives and tips on making your own fries.
Honestly the number one problem with fries is the fact they're fried. The oil is a big factor in this too. Most are probably fried in canola or vegetable oil which is very unhealthy. A little tidbit to make them healthier is to fry them in olive oil because it's a lot healthier than the ones used in restaurants.
Another big problem is that they're FRIED which is super unhealthy. Baking or grilling is much healthier plus the flavor is better :) I saw a recipe on Pinterest that used olive oil and sea salt on baked fries and it looks amazing (I haven't tried it though).
Another thing to make them healthier is to use sweet potatoes or other veggies :) I like regular potatoes but other people like the sweet potatoes or squash or even asparagus
Yet another thing to consider is the type of salt. Basic table salt is awesome but it's very unhealthy. Sea salt is a lot better for you but I think only Wendy's does theirs with sea salt.
Basically, the best way (in my opinion) to make healthy fries is to bake or grill them with olive oil and sea salt. I love keeping the potato skin on because it has better crunch :)

How do you like your fries? Which veggies do you like? Where do your favorite fries come from? Let me know :)

Recipes/How-To's 7-15-13

This week I have experimented with a recipe I've had for about a year. Everyone's recipe for it varies but I think mine is awesome because it's great with a lot of different ingredients! This week's Recipe/How-To is about...chicken wraps!

I put a lot of effort into my food and this was one I just did and tweaked it a little every time I've made it. It's become a staple of my diet over the past year. Note: this does NOT use measurements because it varies with the size of the tortilla and how many you're making. While everyone does theirs differently, here's how I do mine:

Chicken-Bacon-Ranch Wrap
Ingredients:
1 boneless, skinless chicken breast
Fat-Free ranch dressing (fat-free is lower in calories and fat than the light is!)
Bacon bits/cooked bacon, cut into small pieces
Iceberg garden salad mix
Spinach (I put this in when I have it and it's amazing!)
Shredded cheese (mozzarella is the best)
Herbs/spices (this is the part I always experiment with, along with the veggies)
Olive oil (it tastes better with olive oil than it does with any other in my opinion...plus it's healthier!)
Tortillas (any size will do!)

Directions:
Pan Fry
1.) Cut the fat off the chicken breast once defrosted.
2.) Cut into cubes.
3.) Put a little olive oil and spices into a skillet along with the chicken.
4.) Cook chicken in oil and spices until fully cooked.
5.) Heat tortillas in the microwave for 10-15 seconds.
6.) Put the chicken, veggies, cheese, dressing and bacon bits in the tortilla (I do mine in that order) and roll up like a wrap.
7.) Serve with fries, chips or any side you desire.
Boil
1.) Cut the fat off the chicken breast once defrosted (optional)
2.) Place chicken into a pot with water, a little olive oil and the spices/herbs.
3.) Boil water until the chicken is fully cooked (watch to make sure the water doesn't boil over!)
4.) Once cooked, shred the chicken with 2 forks (it WILL be hot!)
5.) Heat tortillas in the microwave for 10-15 seconds.
6.) Put the chicken, veggies, cheese, dressing and bacon bits in the tortilla (I do mine in that order) and roll up like a wrap.
7.) Serve with fries, chips or any side you desire.

You can use any veggies, dressings, cheese, oil or meat with it. I'm always looking for ways to switch it up in the kitchen! :) This is just how I like mine done. You can cook the meat any way you want to. Let me know if/how you make wraps and if you liked it! :D

Sports And Workouts 7-13-13

Sorry I haven't posted in days but I've been super busy lately :P Anyways, this week's (well actually last week) Sport/Workout is about Blogilates.

I have mentioned Blogilates before but that's the food side of it :) She's a Pilates instructor over in California who I discovered by looking up workouts on tumblr back in February or March. I definitely didn't look back when I found her videos! I did them every night till the middle of March when I really got stressed and I felt it when I didn't the workouts. I was so happy and relaxed when I finished the workouts and when my motivation fell, I definitely felt it. I was miserable and always tired. I actually did lose a few pounds when I did the workouts and I was always sore, which is the most amazing feeling in the world when you're working out (at least in my opinion anyways lol this is coming from a 3 year track thrower!) Once I started back up again (which was right before my back really started bothering me a couple weeks ago) it felt so good. Reading all the stories of POPsters (which is what us Blogilates fans call ourselves) will inspire you because last week's really inspired me, partly because it was about a shot putter (which is what I threw in track, along with discus and javelin in the spring of junior and senior year). I read her story and realized anyone could do it on top of everything.

I'm totally OBSESSED with Cassey's workouts! I haven't been able to do any in the past week or so because I've been having muscle spasms in my back for the past few weeks. Once I get started again it will be awesome! Her workouts work so well, even she gets sore after them and she's the one who puts them together!! I love how dedicated she is to helping others because she doesn't post the workouts for herself!

I'm personally obsessed with her Food Baby workout...it gets you going and it's not all that long either. I love how she starts that video too! Warning: you WILL be addicted to it! Here's the link to the Food Baby workout:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSIgraWAisQ

This month, she's putting together different HIIT workouts and even though I haven't been able to do any because of my back, I've read that they're intense too! To be honest, all her videos are! I haven't felt that good after working out in a while and that's rare for me lol. Each month, she puts together a different blend of the videos she already has plus she has a new video every week. Here's the link to the new July calendar! I'm not sure if the password is still up but it may not be :D
http://www.blogilates.com/printables-2/thisismyjuly-workout-calendar-nike-shoe-giveaway-sign-up-for-newsletter-to-get-password

If you're a POPster, let me know which workouts and recipes are your favorites! My favorite workout is Food Baby as I said earlier and my favorite recipe is the banana-oat cookies (I think I posted this recipe last week but I'm not sure)

Hobbies And Stuff 7-12-13

Since I'm already on here posting, I thought I'd post today's hobby...photography! I personally love taking pictures of just about anything that catches my eye. I found this gorgeous, almost professional-looking picture of New York City when I was going through pictures on my phone :) I'll post a few of my favorites! If you have anything you'd like to see a picture of, let me know and I'll see if I have one (and if not, I'll post one!)

Here's my gorgeous picture of New York City (taken last year on a school trip)

Here's Center City, Philadelphia (taken on the way back from a trip to Reading Terminal Market last year) I wish I had a better pic but that's the best one I have

I took this one on the plane from Philly International to Orlando when I went on Senior Trip last April :)

I so have more pictures and I'll post them later :) It's getting late right now (3:40am!) so I'll post more tomorrow when I have some free time :) Till then, sleep well, try those recipes I posted earlier and don't get caught doing anything bad :)

Fashion/Hair Advice 7-11-13

Hope everyone is having a good week so far :D Mine could be better (if I got a job cuz mine is screwing me, as I figured would happen since I called out...turns out I have muscle spasms in my back and that along with a combination of things caused my legs to cramp up) :P So yeah I'm not in the greatest situation at the moment but I am in the lovely process of getting everything together so I can go to college next month for Culinary Arts :D This job hunting thing has been going on for a couple weeks. Maybe if I mention I'm going to college, people would want to hire me part time? Who knows these days. Anyways, here's this week's Fashion and Hair Advice:

This week's Fashion Tip is to never be afraid to mix colors and prints. Just be careful of the shades of that color and make sure you have something that has all the colors in it :) I will post the top and bottom combos once I finish laundry and make the thing on my computer :) Don't worry, it is coming!

This week's Hair Tip is to not tie your hair too tight when you put it up. I don't know about all of you, but if I don't loosen my hair in a ponytail, it hurts and hair falls out (more than it usually does) If it doesn't stay with 1 hair tie, use 2...that's what I do when I put my hair back into a ponytail (not so much when I do braids or anything else)

Thrifty Tips 7-10-13

This week's Thrifty Tip is about finding cool stuff cheaper than most people.

The first thing I'll say about this is if you want to buy something expensive, look online for where to buy it (some stores have it cheaper than others do). If you can't find it in your price range, look up similar items somewhere else...you'll be surprised at the stuff you can find if you do a little research. Also, one big thing to consider is how often you'll use it :) If you use it once and it's expensive, why waste the money when you can buy something equally as expensive and use it everyday? Good luck! :D

Fast Food Alternatives 7-9-13

This week's Fast Food Alternative is about pastries :) Since everyone loves pastries (cakes, pies, cookies, etc.) here are some healthier alternatives!

Cassey (from Blogilates.com) has quite a few clean (not processed) and healthy recipes and my favorite is her banana oat cookies :D They're very simple and you can add other ingredients to them! The best part of these cookies is they can go in the microwave or the oven! http://www.blogilates.com/recipe-index/healthy-desserts/easiest-healthiest-cookie-recipe-in-the-world She has more recipes....just go to Blogilates.com and search what you're looking for :)

Lisa (from Hungry-Girl.com) has a lot of guilt free recipes and cookbooks (as I mentioned last week) but her pastries are amazing :D I'm a HUGE fan of Tiramisu (thanks Kwer!) and here are a couple of her recipes: http://www.hungry-girl.com/chew/show/2665 (IHOP Pancake Swap) http://www.hungry-girl.com/chew/show/2185 (Hungry Girl's Turbo-Tremendous Tiramisu) http://www.hungry-girl.com/newsletters/raw/608 (Hungry Girl's Tremendous Tiramisu) She does have more, all you have to do is go to Hungry-Girl.com and search for whatever you're looking for :D

What sites do you go on for healthier recipes? I'm looking for new ones to try!

Recipes/How-to's 7-8-13

Sorry I haven't posted in a couple days, I've been busy job hunting and organizing my room. Anyways, here's Monday's Recipe/How-to!

This week's recipe is for a fruit salad with a vanilla dip/dressing. You can use any fruits, flavored pudding, cool whip and yogurt you desire :)
Here's what I use in mine:
Raspberries
Strawberries
Apples
Bananas
Pears
Watermelon
Lime Juice (freshly squeezed)

Now for the dip:
1/2 container cool whip (any flavor...I just use the regular light)
2 small cups vanilla yogurt (you can use other flavors too)
1 packet vanilla pudding mix (you can use other flavors)

All you have to do is cut the fruit up and mix the ingredients together for the dip :) I switch up the fruits every now and then but this is what I use most of the time :D Enjoy this recipe! There will be one next week

10 Random Things 7-7-13

Also, what books would you love to see turn into a movie/series? Let me know!

1.) Hunger Games (I'm OBSESSED as I mentioned last week)
2.) Twilight (I love the storyline!)
3.) American Girl movies (they're amazing!)
4.) Vampire Academy (I'm reading the 5th book now and can't wait for the movie!)
5.) Eat, Pray, Love (this is awesome!)
6.) Mortal Instruments (I've heard so much about this series)
7.) Divergent (I heard this is 'the new Hunger Games)
8.) Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (I know it's been out for a while but I haven't gotten to watch/read them yet)
9.) Julie and Julia (I have the book but haven't read it yet!)
10.) Geek Charming (I have the book but I haven't read it yet)

Honorable mentions:
*House of Night (I heard they're making a movie of this series too!)
*Memoirs of a Geisha (I haven't read the book or seen the movie but I've heard it's good)
*The Time Traveler's Wife (the book is confusing but watching the movie after you finish the book helps you understand it!)
*The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (I've heard this one is good too! I haven't read the book or seen the movie yet)
*Speak (this is an awesome book and movie!)
*The Da Vinci Code (I have the book-as well as Angels and Demons-but I haven't read this one or seen the movie)
*Princess Diaries (the books are so much different than the movies! I could barely tell it was the same series! Both are good though)

Sports and Workouts 7-6-13

Today's sports and workouts post is about tennis. I played all 4 years in high school and I love it!
It's a great workout and it doesn't even feel like one :) it tones and gets you going while having fun cuz no one likes a boring workout, right? ;) plus you can play with a few friends!
You don't even have to play traditional tennis either...there are drills and games you can do for fun and to build your skill and theirs :)
So what are you waiting for? Get a racket, a few tennis balls, some friends and get to the court!!

So till next time (aka tomorrow) get off the couch, find something to do and have fun :D

Hobbies And Stuff 7-5-13

Since I completely spaced yesterday here is the hobby of the week...collecting

I collect a couple things actually. Some are a little kiddish I know but the other is cool (at least I think it is)

One collection I have is American Girl dolls. Right now I have 2 but I'm going to have more soon. I have McKenna (girl of the year 2012) and Serena (My American Girl number 19) :)

Another is Rratz dolls. I have a few (mainly Yasmin cuz she's my fave!) but it's getting bigger :)

My 3rd collection is Snapple caps :) this is my biggest collection :) I don't know how many I have but I know I have quite a few :)

All my collections are fairly small but they are growing at a pretty good pace :) let me know what you collect! I want to know

Fashion/Hair Advice 7-4-13

First off, Happy 4th of July to my fellow Americans!! :D don't party too much! Anyways, onto the tips for today :)

Today's fashion tip is buy things that will match different things in your closet. If you buy a shirt that only goes with one pair of jeans or shorts, is it really worth it? If you buy something with different colors, you can always pair it with different tops, bottoms, shoes and accessories :) that makes the piece pay for itself in the long run! :) next week, I'll post different tops and bottoms in various combinations :)

Today's hair tip (curly haired girls...and guys too) is to not overload your hair with chemicals. I've noticed products with a lot of chemicals don't work nearly as well as more natural ingredients! I personally love VO5, Fructis and Suave Naturals :) they smell good, work very well and they're not that expensive!

Until next time, don't get too messed up today, eat lots of classic American food and have fun today!! :)

Thrifty Tips 7-3-13

Sorry I didn't get to this post yesterday! Working overnight has really screwed with me :P so here's yesterday's thrifty tip!

The clearance racks aren't the only place to find a good deal. If something is on a rack that says it's on sale, ask about it! Also, at some stores the employees will tell you what's on sale for how much or how much it's discounted :) never be afraid to ask about rewards or future sales! If you're lucky you can find a cool outfit for the price of one full-priced piece! Good luck out there :) some stores ask for your email address so you can learn about future sales, new stuff, promos they have coming up, and if you have a rewards card with them, you can get even deeper discounts than everyone else

Fast Food Alternatives 7-2-13

Today's healthy fast food alternative is about shakes. Hungry Girl (aka Lisa Lillien) has quite a few recipes but this one is my favorite! :) it's a healthier version of McDonald's Oreo McFlurry and I think it tastes better too :) I use the liquid coffee creamer instead of the powder. It would be 2 tablespoons (which is 2 ounces)

Hungry Girl's website

Recipes and How-To's 7-1-13

I know it kinda seems lazy but since I'm at work I decided to use a recipe I tweeted about 3 months ago on my account @KaseysGirl5 (my get-fit account) :) hope you all enjoy this! I made mine kinda spicy but it was so good. You can also use egg roll wrappers to make bigger cups :) the filling is also good the next day over brown or white rice! Feel free to use turkey, pork, beef or any meat/substitute you desire :) If you try it, let me know what you think. I personally thought mine was very good!
